The pH has it!

It's cold wet and dreary here in the Northeast today.  I'm not feeling all that great either.   I can't figure out if it's a healing crisis or a hormonal issue.  It's probably a combination of both.

Anyway, I was reading one of my juicing books earlier and it was talking about how our bodies, all of our organs down to the cellular level, function best when their internal pH is alkaline.  Check the research.

So what is an alkaline environment?  Well, if you ever took a science class you probably had to learn about acids and bases. Acids are obviously acidic and bases are alkaline. The scale for acids and bases is measured on the pH scale.

I won't get into the whole science behind it, but the human body functions best when around the neutral pH of 7-8.  When we eat a mostly plant based diet, our body becomes more alkaline which in turn gives our organs and cells the optimal environment to live in.  When we eat meat and diary, the opposite occurs.

As you can see from the chart (courtesy of kangensui.us), it's processed food, meat and dairy that will cause the body to be more acidic and prone to a variety of diseases like cancer and heart failure.

So that's what I got for ya today. Keep it fresh, keep it raw, keep it juicy!

Stop Believing the Lies

Day 10 and still going strong!  Of course, I still need to get to the grocery store because I am running very low on my greens, but that's OK!  I found some green apples that I stashed in the fridge and I still have 5 lbs of carrots and other various veggies to get me through the weekend. I love juice!

Anyway...one of my friends recently asked me about protein. "Where do you get your protein from?"  followed by "Aren't you afraid of protein deficiency?"

Her question got me thinking and here's what I told her.  I get my protein from the plants and fruits I am juicing.  She was a bit shocked by my response, but it's true.  Plants contain protein.

So why all this worry about protein?  Why do most people freak out when I tell them I am doing a juice fast?

Well, it's because we've all been fed a big fat assed lie about it by the FDA, the Department of Health and the Department of Agriculture.  What lie?  Well the one that says people need to consume their protein in the form of animal flesh.  I know you've probably heard it.  I grew up with the lie that the only way to get enough protein in my diet was to either eat meat or tofu.

Those three government agencies are telling us lies because they are funded and run by people who have interests (think investments and money) in the meat and and dairy industry. They just want people to eat more meat and dairy. They don't really care about the health of the people they are selling to.  They just want to make money.  Make sense?  I could go on and on about this, but I won't

It turns out that the healthiest diet for human beings is one that consists of high carbohydrate fruits and vegetables, low in fat and adequate in protein. So what is a person to do?  Well, it's really simple.

Stop believing the lies! Eat more fruits and veggies.  Stop eating meat.
Voila!

Day Four: Filled with Joy!

Awesome.  I feel awesome today!

You know I had a little bit of fear when I started this 60 day juice feast, but now, that fear has been replace with pure joy and happiness.  The reasons for this happiness?

1. I am not hungry.  Sounds crazy, but it's true.  I wake up in the morning, have a hot lemon and then 24-32 ounce fresh green juice.  Then I go to work and I am NOT hungry.  Before starting this juice feast, I was hungry pretty much all the time and would eat all day. Now I am not hungry!

This used to be me!

2. I am sleeping better.  I have had issues with falling asleep for years and just in a few days of juicing, I am falling asleep at a normal time, 11 pm,  and getting up around 7-8 am. I cannot remember the last time slept for more than 2-4 hours and now I am sleeping 7 hours a night!  This in itself is a miracle.

3. I have energy that I have not had in years.  Before this feast, I would get up and work, but by noon, I'd be ready for a nap.  Most days I did nap.  Now, I'm up in the morning, I'm working and I don't need a nap.  I'm getting so much accomplished it's amazing.

4. My clothes are fitting me better.  I have been wearing a size 20 pant for a while and just today I went to put them on and they are falling off!  In four days!  HOLY SHIT!

For Reals!

5. I have lost weight.  The proof is in number 4 even though I haven't weighed myself yet and won't again until the end of the month, I have definitely lost weight.  How much?  Who knows and who cares!

I am very happy and filled with joy today.  I hope you are too.

Have a lovely day, Juicy Fruits :)

PS  Here's the video of the day!

Happy New Year's Eve

Happy New Year's Eve!

Just wanted to give a shout out to all my awesome readers and friends and family today.

Tomorrow I start a 60 day juice cleanse and I'm super excited.  My goal is to do a blog a day and a video a day (super scary for me cause I don't like being in front of the camera these days) for the 60 days.

What are your goals?  Do you set resolutions?

See ya next year, juicy fruits!

Call Me Crazy

Go ahead and call me crazy, but there really is magic in fresh juice.

For the past few days here in New England, the weather has been getting warm and then cooling off.  Whenever this happens, my body reacts and I usually catch a cold or some other nasty virus. I get watery eyes, a stuffed up nose, a sore throat and all the other lovely things that come with contracting a virus.

Well, this time has been different. I started getting a  sore throat the other day. I knew what was going on so I decided to make up a hot lemon and drink that before bed. Within a few minutes of drinking the hot lemon (recipe to follow), my throat felt better.  Sounds crazy, but it's true. My sore throat has been coming and going so this morning I made a lemony-apple juice and drank that (recipe to follow)

Now it's noon and my sore throat is nearly gone.

I really love the healing power that fruits and veggies have and yes, you can call me crazy!

Hot Lemon
Fresh Juice from one lemon
1 to 1 1/2 tsp honey
8-12 ounces hot water

Mix together and consume.  This is great for  sore throats and colds.  The best part is that it's natural and does not contain nasty drugs or chemicals.

Lemony Apple
3 Granny Smith Apples
1 Lemon
1 inch piece of ginger

Run this through your juicer and drink.  This is a pretty tart juice so if you don't like tart, feel free to add or replace one or two of the apples with another variety.

Another Day at the Office

It's just another day at the office.

Today's Juice
Apple
Carrot
Lemon
Kale

I wasn't sure of this combination when I first juiced it but I was very pleasantly surprised by both the tartness and sweetness of it.  It was a lovely way to start the day.

The book is coming along nicely. I've been working on the finishing up a couple of the chapters and formatting. I'm so excited about this book it's unbelievable!

I'm also working on the website a little more as I learn a little more each day about HTML and website publishing. It's funny how easy it is to surf the internet without a passing thought to what goes into making the pages.

Have a great day,  Juicy Fruits!

Wicked Cool and Easy!

Today's juice was really good!  Simple and just what I needed to start my day.  I don't know about you folks, but I really love starting the day off with 24-32 oz of juice.  It just sets me up to have a really good day.

Here's the recipe:
Today's Juice:
2 small apples
3 large carrots
1 cup butternut squash

So I was cruising around looking at cool things for this site and the other one and I found this place where people can customize tees without all the overhead costs.

I thought that was wicked cool so I designed a shirt for the blog and website and book. I think the whole process took me about 10 minutes!  You gotta love that!

And here it is!  The Let's Juice It Tee!

I cannot wait for mine to come in the mail.  I think I will buy my fiance one too!

Have fun, juicy fruits :)
